Student Design Workshop
Inclusivity and Accessibility

As part of our continued collaboration with the University of Reading School of Architecture, we recently hosted some Master’s students in our new studio who got stuck into a design workshop on inclusivity and accessibility in architecture.
The design workshop session was led by two of our Architectural Designers Anna and Rosie – University of Reading alumni, themselves. Following an engaging lecture from our Associate Paul Avery covering regulations, best practice and case studies, the students explored ways to address design issues surrounding accessibility and inclusivity using hypothetical characters within a real context.
These opportunities to engage with the next generation of architects are extremely important, and we always look forward to working side-by-side with students. Our various Interest Groups have been working hard to extend these opportunities to more budding architects, also welcoming two other students for a full work experience timetable this week.
We like to get pens in hands and fingers on keyboards while we have the students with us, giving them chance to tackle interesting and complex design activities – complemented by forward-thinking lectures from the likes of Paul.
A huge well done to the students for offering some excellent ideas and thoughts during our workshop, and we wish them the best of luck with the rest of their studies. Paul is looking forward to attending for the next set of workshops in the new year.
