Basingstoke Sports & Social Club
PROJECTS / Culture + Community
Our design for Basingstoke Sports & Social Club replaces the outdated building at May’s Bounty cricket ground with a new contemporary pavilion. The proposal includes international standard cricket changing facilities, three squash courts, club bar with members lounge and a flexible function space with capacity of up to 150 people.
The pavilion form consists of two carved brick blocks which together create a plinth to accommodate the changing room spaces. An external terrace wraps around the first floor providing 360 degree views to the surrounding sports pitches. A rhythmic folded canopy above provides shelter to the terrace and the first floor social space.
The aspiration is for the town to host Hampshire County cricket matches once again, with the facility also becoming a new home for a local rugby, football and squash club.
