Hi, my name is Rosie, and I am an architectural designer at Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt.
The thing I enjoy most about my job is visualising the designs, so they become a reality. So, that’s through Enscape visuals or making videos. I love going on Enscape and flying round the models and seeing the spaces in real life.
The main project I’ve worked on is URS which is a university building for Reading. That project has been really fun – looking at the retrofit and how everything works.
We have just moved into our new studio which is much bigger than our old space. The open plan layout is really helpful, you get to talk to everyone you are working with, and have more of a collaborative approach on a day-to-day basis. It feels like a very design-led environment.
I am currently a Part 2 Architectural Designer, so I am looking to do my Part 3 soon. I already feel – a year into the practice – that I am getting a lot more responsibility, and people are helping me progress in that direction.
So, if you are starting out in architecture like I am, I would say not to take things too seriously. Just relax. Every day you are learning something new, you’re doing something you have never done before. No one expects you to get it right on the first try, but you are constantly learning. You will learn as you go, and you will get better every single day.
